What is a Crisis Supporter? Lifeline Crisis Supporter Phone Volunteers are trained to provide one-off, immediate assistance over the phone to help-seekers in crisis or distress. Could this be you?
Thank you for your interest in volunteering. Our volunteers give their time, energy and expertise generously to achieve our Vision of “an Australia free of suicide”, so that no person has to face their darkest moments alone. Lifeline is truly grateful for the support of our volunteers.
Lifeline’s 24/7 crisis support phone service, 13 11 14, relies on volunteers like you. We are seeking compassionate, empathic listeners committed to supporting others.
Lifeline volunteers enrol in specialised training that ensures they are fully equipped to effectively respond to people from all walks of life, in various crises. The training will equip you with the skills needed to support a help seeker through their immediate crisis.
Lifeline Crisis Supporter training is a blended program including weekly eLearning, face-to-face, practice and on-site placement, followed by an on-site internship. Once accredited, Lifeline volunteers are then supported comprehensively via a reflective practice framework that includes annual supervision and professional development.
Recognised Accreditation
Fully completing all of the training results in your transition to being an Accredited Lifeline Crisis Supporter i.e. you will obtain the nationally recognised CHCSS00113 – Crisis Support Skill Set Training, receiving a Statement of Attainment of 3 Units of Competency. Lifeline Crisis Supporter Workplace Training is delivered on behalf of Lifeline Australia RTO 88036 by our dedicated training team at Lifeline Central West.

Volunteer Requirements
- Be over the age of 18 and an Australian/New Zealand citizen, or have a valid visa, with no study restrictions.
- NSW Police Check and Working with Children or Working with Vulnerable People Check.
- A minimum of 4 hours per fortnight available to volunteer.
- A student contribution towards the cost of the nationally accredited Crisis Support Workplace Training course. Lifeline Central West subsidises the cost of training. As an Accredited Crisis Supporter, you’ll be engaging in providing crisis support, receiving feedback, and taking part in professional development activities.
What happens after I register my interest?
Your registration will be sent to our training team and they will contact you within 3-4 business days with upcoming training information and will outline the recruitment process. If you are unable to commit fully to the next training dates, we can keep your information on file (with your permission) and reach out to you prior to future cohorts. Application Process:
Step 1: Submit an Application of Interest to become a Crisis Supporter.
Step 2: Your application will be reviewed to assess suitability for this vital role. We will work with you to explore if this opportunity aligns with your capacity, skills and goals.
Step 3: If successful, we’ll invite you to an interview and provide details about upcoming training groups.

Our information sessions are a great way to learn more about the Crisis Supporter role, training process, and expectations. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions. It is important to attend or view an information session before applying.
