Have you ever found yourself supporting a friend, family member, colleague or even a stranger who is experiencing distress or a crisis, and you aren’t sure what to say? Our Accidental Counsellor workshop equips participants with the skills and knowledge to respond appropriately in these situations.
Learning how to ‘Recognise, Respond and Refer’ helps program participants build their confidence to support people who are experiencing distress or a crisis, whatever it may be. Participants will learn effective communication skills, ask directly about thoughts of suicide and respond safely, whatever the answer. It defines the role of an “Accidental Counsellor” and includes a self care module to ensure their own well being.
The program is 4 hours of interactive group learning in a face to face or virtual format and can be extended to a full day. The program material is accessible and practical and has no requirements for pre-existing skills or knowledge. Our experienced facilitators create a safe and effective learning environment. We can tailor the program to suit your workplace or community needs.
