Supporting Everyday Leaders Lithgow
August 19, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Lithgow City Council acknowledges that our community has had its fair share of disasters and community stressors in the last five years. We appreciate the vital role of our “Everyday Community Leaders” played in keeping the community afloat.
We are pleased to be working with Lifeline Central West and Wentworth Healthcare to connect our Everyday Community Leaders with some mentoring, networking and training to support you in what you are already doing to support your local communities.
Who is an Everyday Leader?
Everyday Leaders are local community members who have a genuine desire to assist others. They provide support,
resources, and a friendly ear. They listen and support those who are feeling the impacts of disasters like drought, flood,
fire, or other issues affecting their mental health and wellbeing. Everyday Leaders also promote resilience and share
self-care practices.
.
If you are an Everyday Leader, its likely:
- You are a person that people naturally approach with their concerns
- You want to give back to your community and would appreciate training and support to do this
- You may be involved in community organisations that give you opportunities to talk to a wide range of people.
Over six months there will be six individual support sessions available for participants and three group get togethers (for example dinner and a chat) for yourself and other Community Leaders. We will talk more at the Information Session about how these might work best for you.
Everyday Leaders will also be provided with free Gatekeeper Training (suicide prevention) and Mental Health First Aid training, with clinical support/mentoring, and optional monthly SHOTS (short hits of training) on specialised topics.
We understand there is a lot going on in the Lithgow region and there is no expectation to do more than you are doing. We only want to provide support and resources for you to do what you are already doing so well.
If you’d like to have a chat about the program, call Jennifer Quealy, Disaster Recovery Community Development Officer, on 02 6354 9999, or the Lifeline team on 1300 798 258 or RSVP for the Information Session.
