PARKES | 1-Day First Nations Focused Workshop

Further training for frontline workers who have completed any 2-day DV-alert workshop, this workshop focuses on family violence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contexts. Frontline workers will learn how to Recognise, Respond and Refer appropriately and with care.
The 1-Day First Nations Focused Workshop is offered at no cost to equip frontline workers with the knowledge and skills to address family violence in in First Nations communities. This workshop is part of DV-alert’s Assessment Pathway, helping learners work towards a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
The First Nations Workshops are co-delivered and led by First Nations Subject Matter Experts.
By the end of the workshop, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to:
- Identify and respond to the needs of First Nations clients who may be experiencing family violence
- Respond appropriately providing culturally sensitive responses to First Nations clients urgent needs, prioritising safety and security and support, including safety planning.
- Refer First Nations clients to appropriate services and support.
Who should attend?
This workshop is ideal for frontline workers in health, allied health, education, and community services sectors, as well as anyone who works or volunteers in a role where they may come into contact with people experiencing domestic and family violence.

- build knowledge and skills to become a confident first responder to family violence in First Nations communities
- learn from skilled facilitators who are experienced in working with First Nations communities
- network and share insights with other frontline workers in the community
- contribute to the Federal Government’s mission towards ending violence against women and children within one generation.
Assessment Pathway
The 1-day focused workshops are one of the key components of the DV-alert Assessment Pathway.
To complete the pathway, you must also complete the 2-Day Foundations Workshop or the 2-Day First Nations Workshop, and the eLearning Foundations, plus the assessments. Upon completion of each component, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency CHCDFV001: Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence. Be a front line worker.
Be aged 18+
Have completed any 2-day DV-alert workshop
Cost
It is free for frontline workers.
Financial support is also offered for staff backfill for attendance of the 2-Day Foundation workshops and 1-day focused workshops, and help with travel and accommodation is available in some cases.
